Blättersturm is a birch plywood Gyroid. Inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s Plydome research and patent on bent plates, we extended the concept by addressing a wider range of surface curvatures by introducing all kind of mesh disclinations well studied in emergent nano materials research fields. The challenge is to produce universal solutions for doubly curved thin shells by efficient means. The strategy is to produce curvature simply by connectivity and elastically assemble unique rectangular pieces with neither waste nor manufacturing difficulty. Blättersturm is the final installation of four-day workshop at KOGE conducted by CODA researchers.
